About Tim Baker

tim_bakerTim Baker is the founder of Baker & Company Advisory Group, Inc. Since it was incorporated in 1987, he has been registered as the Principal Advisor for Baker & Company Advisory Group, a Registered Investment Advisor. Baker & Company is a firm built with dedication and passion to the practice of strategic risk management and working to improve people’s lives. Tim studied Anthropology and Psychology at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He has been an investment professional for over 30 years. After spending 4 of those years between A.G. Edwards and E.F. Hutton & Co., Tim decided he wanted to be independent and work for his clients instead of a giant corporation. Tim holds a General Securities Series 7 license, a Uniform Securities Series 63, and Uniform Registered Investment Advisor Series 65 license. In addition he holds a Life, Health, and Variable insurance license.

Tim differentiates his firm from other investment and retirement planning firms by combining strategic investment decisions with a documented ability to detect significant market changes, which will assist in the preservation of the wealth of his clients. He takes a proactive approach to financial risks, which are often ignored or dismissed, and can be detrimental to investments if not addressed. Tim believes it is not enough to merely place clients in sound investments and then move on. He is constantly involved with his clients and monitors their portfolios and investments continually.

The workings of the global economy and the markets are a consuming passion for Tim. On a typical day he spends 3-4 hours following the flow of the financial markets around the world. He has dedicated himself to being a strategist that focuses on understanding the continually evolving “big picture” of our economic state. Tim is very technical about the global markets and retains the notion that, “during these uncertain times, we cannot cope with highly volatile global economic fundamentals only on our coffee breaks.” Once after a public speaking event, an economist asked Tim where he had done his graduate work. He smiled and said, “The same school as Bill Gates & Steve Jobs.”

Tim has been married 41 years, with 3 children and 3 grandchildren. He is a former Cub Scout leader and active supporter of the Boy Scouts, Sertoma, Rotary Club, and Golden Kiwanis. He and his wife Cindy, are supporters of various extracurricular student & family support activities. He enjoys boating, fishing, hiking, attending sports events for his grandsons, and dance recitals for his granddaughter. Tim & Cindy often attend their son’s theater productions in St. Louis. Tim has been a frequent guest speaker at civic social organizations and is the author of the 2007 white paper/research report Tectonic Economics.
